Google must divulge the viewing habits of every user who has ever watched any video on YouTube, a US court has ruled.
The ruling comes as part of Google's legal battle with Viacom over allegations of copyright infringement.
Digital rights group the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) called the ruling a "set-back to privacy rights".
I don't think this is a good thing at all...If I viewed some Family Guy clips on YouTube, can they come after me?
That's not what this case is for; even if you uploaded the clips you'd have more cause to worry, but I think the suit is against Youtube and not the users who uploaded them.
it's still bs, one that is private data that according to the user agreement would nto be used this way.
two it is identify data, which means I should have the right to Challenger its release.
three is a a corporate asset, as identifiable data, it holds great value for advertising
plus there is laws protecting isp and content providers from their users as long as they provide a method for the removal of copywitted material.. aka dmca complaints.. and google is on top of those very quickly.
This is just an example why we need a technology savey court system.. perhaps only let judges oversee technology cases, if they have passed some basic knowledge tests.
and last
geeezus, google is savign all that data, 12 terrabytes of just what videos we watched? damn I'm always cleanign my logs and these guys are just buying huge hd arrays to store larger and larger logs.
