Obese man acquitted for squashing wife to death

advertisement

A German appeals court overturned a five-year jail sentence on Monday for an obese bus driver who fatally squashed his wife by falling on her during a booze-fuelled row.

The court in Hildesheim near Hannover decided the 52-year-old man, who weighs more than 20 stone (130 kilos, 280 pounds), was guilty of causing bodily injuries by negligence and issued him with a warning and a fine of €2,580.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I hear he had a watch on each arm - one for each time zone he was in.

We're so far gone in America that when I read that he was 280 pounds, I thought, "that's all?" That's nothing in American obese standards. He'd be the Biggest Loser winner at that trimmed down weight over here.

seriously, 280? we don't consider you a fatty here in the states 'til you're around 400 or even 500 lbs. But apparently 280 is enough to kill a woman..

I know I would be squashed like a bug. Moral: Do not have a fight with a drunk and very fat man. Or if you do, watch out if it looks like he is going to topple over.

Sadly, I agree. I did a triple take reading the weight; "Didn't they say obese?!" ran through my mind. /sigh
