It is just like leaving the gas tank open when you drive off from the station, really they are quite similar, only one is a human leg that you cut off.

Well, I would suppose, that after murdering someone, you might be in bit of a panic. Poor thing though, after all that work! Yuck.
Too bad it wasn't an arm though, she might have been able to stuff that under the seat.
