A new bridge joining Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai is scheduled to be completed by 2016. With a length of about 50 km the connection is set to be the region's top eye-catcher.
But now a crazy new design proposal is trying to make the bridge above China's Pearl River even more striking – while solving a major problem at the same time.
Since colonial times, traffic in Hong Kong and Macau has driven on the left, while Zhuhai has right-hand traffic. Consequently, somewhere between the two ends of the bridge traffic has to be redirected onto the respective 'right' side.
