Scientists have entered the 'end game' of discovering what causes cancers and how to treat them, the head of the Cancer Genome Project said today.
Professor Mark Stratton, director of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, was speaking just weeks after one of the first gene-targeting drugs was found to significantly reduce skin cancer tumours.
