The owners of the Costa Concordia are offering survivors of the disaster a 30 per cent discount off future cruises as they battle to stave off law suits expected to cost hundreds of millions of pounds.

Happily BLUE in Ohio

It's beyond insulting to make that offer considering what these people went through--and why it happened.

Please - the lawsuits are going to be ridiculous - and these people want MORE from the Cruise Line?

Greed is disgusting. This was an accident, and these people want to cash in on it.

Yep, people take a giant boat out to sea and expect ZERO risk.

Deal with reality. Things go wrong.

Hecate's Daughter

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression there was negligence involved...something about a Capt. who purposely steered toward disaster so a waiter could wave to his family...and then REFUSED to follow orders from the Coast Guard to go back and help survivors. (and claimed he "just fell into" a lifeboat...)

Insulting doesn't begin to describe it. After having survived the horror of this disaster, I wouldn't think anyone who survived would consider ever taking one of these cruises again for free - especially a Costa Concordia or Carnival one. They're probably scared to go anywhere near an ocean for life, thinking they could have been one of the ones that died.

Yeah, it's like saying, "Here, we'd like another chance to try and kill you, since we screwed it up the first time!" WTF???

What a bunch of whiny babies. You're not dead, get over it. I've been in much scarier situations. It makes me sick how greedy and lazy some people are.

SLUVE - I'm sure everyone here is just praying you'll share with us all the much scarier situations you've been in in your formidable 18 years of age. I'm sure I couldn't begin to imagine all that you've been through and survived.

Clearly age doesn't count for much because you still haven't learned what happens when you assume.

My mom was hit by a car when I was 12.

Sluve, there are people here on the Vine that have childhoods that make yours pale in comparison. I'm sorry for your loss, but it is a part of life. I lost a child, a step-father, a close friend. And with each year that passes, my living children are moving out on their own, my husbands (polyandrous - see bio) are getting older, my grandparents have died, and my parents will follow...sooner than later. That is just life. And yes, it sucks. So hold on to each moment you have of this precious life, and those you love. You WILL NOT have ANYONE forever. (not counting the "afterlife" - I don't know your religious views)
    Blessings, HD

I have to concur with Hecate's Daughter's statement. While I am sorry you lost your mother tragically, so too did I. I was molested as a child as were many others (many of whom I'm sure post here), many who have been born into impoverished circumstances and remain impoverished, have lost jobs, have lost everything. You have your whole life ahead of you still and more troubles will undoubtedly come your way. That's just what life does. Life tests your mettle. I hope you're ready for what comes next for life will always throw you another curve ball.
